Candy Cane Card

I have been on a cardmaking roll trying to get all of my Christmas cards finished in time for mailing. I made 6 cards today but it seemed to take the entire day to complete them. A lot of the time was designing them using Design Studio to cut shapes appropriate for a 5×7 card, my preferred mailing size. I have already posted the other two cards I made this morning (the ornament card from Wild Card and the Christmas mouse card from Four Legged Friends). If you would like to see these, just click on “Home” and scroll down or you can click “Christmas” under the Cards folder found in Categories (right hand menu).

This candy cane card was cut using Cricut’s Christmas Village cartridge. I cut this at 5 inches in white and then cut it again in red. I used Design Studio to hide the contour lines for the red layer so that a solid cane would cut and peek through the top white layer. I embossed the white layer with a Cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder and then tied a small red ribbon around the cane. The green patterned paper is from the Ornamental Christmas Paper Pack by the Paper Studio.

    • Hi Sophia! The Christmas Village cartridge has nice images on it for cards but it also has cut outs where you can make the entire Nativity scene with the wise men, animals, and Mary, Joseph, and Baby Jesus. These can stand upright on a table because there’s a slit at the bottom of the figure and a corresponding stand to insert into it. It also has an advent calendar feature where you can cut out and attach buildings together (Victorian era or Bethlehem era) but these are not 3-D – they are flat and then you attach little box cuts to the back where you can open the windows on the buildings and hide small treats. I haven’t attempted this yet and may not have time this year, but it will be fun to do in the future. The only issue with the cartridge is there is not a layers feature so if you want your images to have multiple colors, you will have to paper piece with scissors. But overall, this cartridge is really nice for Christmas. I love that it has images for both a Victorian Christmas, with carolers and ice skaters, and my favorite era, the Nativity. Thank you for the lovely comments on these cards! ~Vanessa
